Michoacán is one of the most megadiverse states and is ranking fifth in bird diversity.
In Michoacán you find more than 560 species that belong to 77 families and 24 different orders. It has a total of 336 resident species and the rest are migratory. The resident terrestrial species represent a little more than half of the avifauna.
JIQUILPAN
Lake Chapala
Every year during the winter, the Chapala Lagoon becomes the habitat of hundreds of white pelicans. At sunset, after 4 or 5 pm they begin to approach the shore of the lake to be fed by the fishermen, it is quite a spectacle. It is located half an hour from Jiquilpan.
BEACHES IN MICHOACÁN
Playa Maruata
This is a beautiful semi-virgin beach that is surrounded by rock formations and exuberant vegetation. Here fresh waters meet salty waters, which attracts a large number of birds such as pelicans, flamingos and white herons, among many others.
Playa Las Brisas
It is a beach with beautiful turquoise waters that contrast with its golden sand. Nearby there is an estuary with a great biodiversity that includes a great variety of birds and some alligators.
Playa La Manzanillera
A beach surrounded by hills and flanked by huge coconut trees where you can see a large number and variety of seabirds.
ZITÁCUARO
Zirahuato Dam
It is a beautiful place with an oak-pine forests landscape that contrast with the blue waters of the dam. This is the home of 6 species of migratory birds. The three islets are full of birds for a few months. It is located half an hour from Zitácuaro.
