BEAUTIFUL SPHERES AND INCREDIBLE COLONIAL MONUMENTS
Tlalpujahua is a town of pre-Hispanic origin, its name derives from the Nahuatl words "Tlalli," meaning earth, and "Poxohuac," meaning spongy thing.
It is nestled on a hill surrounded by beautiful wooded landscapes that serve as a home to millions of monarch butterflies.
This former mining center features cobbled streets and picturesque arcades. You can explore and be amazed by its artisan workshops, which invite you to see beautiful blown glass works, especially colorful Christmas ornaments.
It is also known for its exquisite sweets, preserves, and traditional herbal liqueurs.
The town enjoys a pleasant temperate climate throughout the year, with an average temperature of 15ºC.
It is located in a mountainous region in the northwest of the state of Michoacán, 142 km (2 hours) from Morelia, 116 km (1 hour and 50 minutes) from Toluca, and 179 km (3 hours) from Mexico City.

Plaza Mayor (Main Plaza)
It is the town’s gathering place and is surrounded by the Municipal Palace and the arcades.
Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Carmen
An 18th-century construction that presents a spectacle of lights at night. Its facade is Baroque, and its three-tiered tower in pink color stands out.
Inside, you will be dazzled by its impressive decoration with floral and vegetal motifs, as well as its beautiful altarpieces.
Zaragoza Garden
It features a beautiful fountain and an original octagonal kiosk, and it is the place to experience the tranquil and relaxed atmosphere of Tlalpujahua.
Convento Franciscano de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe
It features a beautiful representation of the Virgin of Guadalupe by Miguel Cabrera in the main altar. It dates back to the 17th century and was initially dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi, but currently, it is a Guadalupe Sanctuary.
Hermanos López Rayón Museum
Located in the former birthplace of these leaders of the Independence movement. The museum tells the life and work of these historical figures and exhibits artifacts and photographs from the town's mining past.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00 hrs. and from 16:00 to 18:00 hrs.
Las Dos Estrellas Mine
Está a tan sólo 1.5 kilómetros de Tlalpujahua y es una parte importante de la historia de Tlalpujahua. Actualmente, es un museo de sitio donde se muestran las edificaciones y los talleres de mantenimiento originales. Está rodeada de un bello paisaje boscoso y jardines.
