Michoacán is a state with a large quantity and diversity of natural landscapes.
It also has the additional attraction that there are some rural communities that are always willing to share their traditions, rituals, folklore, dishes and their knowledge about the flora and fauna of the region.
MORELIA
Ichaqueo Waterfalls Ecotourism Center
It has a camping area and some services such as kitchen, toilets and cabins. The place is surrounded by a dense forest and not far away there are beautiful rivers and waterfalls that can be explored. It is located 10 minutes from Morelia.
Los Azufres
Located east of the state in the middle of a forest of pines and oyameles with hot springs of sulfur waters. It is a tourist complex that has a camping area, bonfires, grills, showers, changing rooms and parking.
This region has a mild weather but at night temperature is rather cold, so you have to bring warm clothes.
The Laguna Larga Tourist Camp is also located in Los Azufres. The camp offers cabins, convenience stores and some recreational activities such as zip lines and climbing walls. It is located an hour and 40 minutes from Morelia.
Umecuaro Dam
This is the ideal place to relax and enjoy a wooded landscape where you can camp on the lake shore. It is located 15 minutes from Morelia.
Pucuato Dam
It is a beautiful place with a blue water dam surrounded by pine and oak forests where you can go to relax and camping. It has an Ecotourism Center that offers lodging and restaurant services, as well as recreational activities such as zip-lining, kayaking, rappelling, mountain biking, and excursions. It is located an hour and a quarter from Morelia.

Laguna Larga Tourist Camp
This ecotourism center has a camping area in the middle of beautiful landscapes. Additionally, it offers thermal water pools with waters that reach up to 40ºC, a restaurant, a climbing wall, interpretive trails and a zip line. It is located an hour and a half from Morelia.
BEACHES IN MICHOACÁN
There is also the option of camping on the beautiful beaches of the Michoacán coast, among the best are:
Bucerías Lighthouse with its incredible rocky islets.
Maruata with islets of aquatic plants, lagoons that are formed from fresh and salt water and its famous cliff called the Finger of God, is one of the best places for camping on the Michoacan coast.
Caleta de Campos with moderate waves.
Pichilinguillo is considered the marine pool of the Michoacan coast.
La Llorona, which is characterized by its large rock formations and has a camping area with showers and restrooms.
Playa Palma Sola, is a bay with calm and crystalline waters with a camping area where it is very common to see a large number of crabs.
Zapote de Madero, beautiful semi-virgin beach.
TACÁMBARO
Cerro Hueco Ecological Recreational Park
It is a beautiful place with a unique feature, the crater of the extinct volcano that has become a lagoon known as La Alberca (The pool). This beautiful place is surrounded by wooded vegetation and has a camping area, grills, sports facilities, a zip line and parking. Be sure to ask the locals the legend of the extinct volcano.
Here you can go hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. It has gazebos, children's games, basketball courts and a mini soccer field. It is located 10 minutes south from the Magical Town of Tacámbaro.
URUAPAN
Paricutin Volcano
Camping on the Paricutín volcano, one of the most enigmatic and mysterious volcanoes in the country, is a unique experience. You can climb up to its crater at 2,810 meters above sea level where is a cross that commemorates the town that disappeared due to the volcano, San Juan Quemado, and you also have an impressive panoramic view. Here you can also go hiking and mountain biking. It is located 2 hours from Uruapan.
Nearby is The Pantzingo Ecotourism Center with a camping area, as well as other recreational activities such as rappelling, mountain biking and zip-lining. It is located half an hour from Uruapan.
La Tzaráracua
This incredible waterfall with a height of 60 m (200 ft.) offers multiple falls. There are camping areas near the viewpoints that have grills, toilets, firewood and a roof to cover in case of rain. In the place you can go horseback riding or descend the 579 stairs to contemplate the enormous waterfall. It is located half an hour from south Uruapan.
ZAMORA
Camécuaro Lake National Park
One of the great beauties of Michoacán is the Camécuaro Lake National Park, which is located 13 km from Zamora. In the park there is a lake with springs and a great variety of hundred-year-old trees that make the landscape unique.
It is one of the best options in the state for camping since it also has thermal pools and you can enjoy a boat ride. It is located 20 minutes from Zamora.
ZIRAHUÉN
Lake Zirahuen
It is a green water lake of incredible beauty surrounded by steep mountains, so its banks are very steep.
Here is a tourist complex that has a beautiful camping area with all the services you need to enjoy nature.
ZITÁCUARO
Zirahuato Dam
It is a beautiful dam surrounded by a forest of pines and oaks. Inside the dam there are three islands and it is an attractive and original place to camp. It is an ideal place for bird watching. You can also practice kayaking and hiking. It is located half an hour north from Zitácuaro.
