THE WORLD CAPITAL OF THE GUITAR
It was known as San Pedro Paracho and consisted of nine towns: San Gerónimo Aranza, Santa María Cheranhahtzincurín, Santa Cruz Tanaco, San Bartolomé Cocucho, Santa María Urapicho, Santiago Nurio Tepagua, San Miguel Pomacuarán, San Mateo Avirán, and San Pedro Paracho.
In 1831, it was designated as a municipality, and in 1862, it was granted the title of Villa, under the name "Paracho de Verduzco." "Paracho" is a Chichimeca word that means "Offering," while the last part of the name was given in honor of the insurgent Sixto Verduzco.
The most striking feature in the streets of Paracho is the large number of shops dedicated to selling guitars. 98% of the guitars in the country are produced in this Pueblo Mágico, which is why it is known as the "World Capital of the Guitar." It is also important to note that other high-quality instruments are produced here, especially string instruments, with nearly 120 different instruments being made.
At the entrance to the town stands the monumental guitar, a must-see spot for taking a memorable photo. It is the main attraction, as it represents the symbol that characterizes the town of Paracho.
In August, they celebrate the patron saints San Pedro and San Pablo, as well as the National Guitar Fair. And in October, you can enjoy the celebration of the "canacuas," which is a traditional dance passed down from generation to generation.
Paracho is located 118 km (2 hours) from Morelia, 66.5 km (1 hour and 15 minutes) from Pátzcuaro, and 411 km (5 and a half hours) from Mexico City.
