It is a beautiful town that is part of the Mountain Corridor in the state of Hidalgo and is located just 8 km from Pachuca.

The old mining town is nestled within the El Chico Protected Natural Area, amidst an incredible forested landscape abundant in pines, oyamel firs, and oaks. Additionally, its panoramic views showcase astonishing rock formations that invite you to engage in a wide range of adventure sports.

It is a mining town with a history of over 440 years, and while its mining splendor has faded, it has now become a destination to enjoy its history and natural beauty.

It is characterized by its multicolored houses with red roofs that contrast with the surrounding greenery. The town's architecture reflects the mix of cultures that have passed through, including English, Spanish, and North American influences, among others.

Moreover, it has a mystical character, as it is often covered in dense fog.

It is located 30 km (45 minutes) from Pachuca and 136 km (2 and a half hours) from Mexico City.

Plaza Principal (Main Plaza)

The magic of the town begins in its Main Square with an iron fountain and the church clock, both donations from Don Gabriel Mancera.

Parroquia de la Purísima Concepción (Parish)

Located in front of the Main Square, this church was built in 1725 with a neoclassical quarry facade. It has a special tradition: every Easter, a shower of rose petals is thrown from its cornice.

Next to the church, there is a clock manufactured in the same workshop as the famous Big Ben in London. From here, you can start exploring the cobblestone streets, often covered in mountain fog.

La Casa del Artesano (Craftsman's House)

Here, you can find a wide variety of items crafted by local artisans, such as textiles, pottery, woodcarvings, jewelry, and embroidery, among others.

Mining Museum

This is a must-visit place. The museum exhibits the tools used by miners for over 400 years, as well as other artifacts that narrate the mining history of the town.

Mines

Additionally, you have the option to visit some mines, with San Antonio Mine being a notable one. Its history dates back to 1560, and it produced silver for over 400 years.

Casa de la Brujas (House of the Witches)

If you are into mysteries, you can visit this strange place. It is an abandoned and ruined house with a legend that tells the story of three witches who lived there and performed various rituals. According to the tale, the neighbors realized they were witches, and upon being discovered, they hanged themselves and set themselves on fire. Visitors report strange events and sightings in the house and its surroundings.
