Grutas de Tolantongo (Grotto)
This is one of the most beautiful places in the state of Hidalgo and a river of hot springs runs through its main grotto, which have been channeled into a group of hot water pools that were built in various sections of a canyon with incredible panoramic views.
At the entrance you will have to go through a thermal tunnel with a length of approximately 15-meter (50 feet) where you will feel as if you were in a steam bath. It has a variety of activities available from caves and rivers to pools and tunnels.
If you want to explore the cave you are going to need water shoes because some of the paths are rocky and the bottoms of the cave as well as the river are uneven and rocky as well.
Try to avoid visiting Tolantongo on weekends or on a holiday because it gets very crowded.
There is a hotel and camping areas.
The Tolantongo caves are located in the Cardonal municipality, one hour and forty minutes from Actopan, two and a half hours from Pachuca and four hours drive from Mexico City.
