This picturesque town is nestled in the mountains, amidst a beautiful natural landscape of forests, lagoons, and reservoirs.

There are several ranches that have been converted into luxury hotels, offering excellent services and nature-focused experiences such as farming, herding cattle, and even milking cows.

It enjoys pleasant weather throughout the year, with an average temperature of 21ºC, without significant changes throughout the four seasons. However, the coldest month is January, with temperatures around 17ºC.

It is located 206 km (3.5 hours) from Guadalajara and 97 km (2 hours) from Puerto Vallarta.

Tourist Attractions in Mascota

Plaza Principal (Main Plaza)

The meeting point for the people of Mascota is the Main Square, with neoclassical gardens and a characteristic Neo-Mudéjar-style kiosk. It is surrounded by old mansions, and in front of it stands the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores

This building dates back to the 18th century and features a Baroque style. It is one of the most emblematic constructions in the town.

Palacio Municipal (City Hall)

An 18th-century building in neoclassical style that is part of the beautiful Main Square.

Templo Inconcluso de la Preciosa Sangre

This is a 19th-century construction with enormous reinforced walls.

Mascota Archaeological Museum

It has four exhibition halls displaying over 600 artifacts recovered from sites such as El Pantano, El Embocadero, and Coamajales, dating from 800 BC. Among these objects are bones, ceramic pieces, and some worked stones that were part of the offerings found in over 170 tombs. There is also a collection of photos of ancient petroglyphs.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 110:00 to 19:00 hrs. Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00 hrs.

"El Pedregal" Museum

A unique museum that exhibits various objects with stone applications, such as guitars, piñatas, chess sets, pillows, caps, among others. In the center of the museum, there is a wishing well. It also has a spectacular photographic collection illustrating some of the historical events of Mascota.

Opening hours: Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 hrs.

Raúl Rodríguez Museum

It offers a diverse exhibition that honors different facets of Mascota, including archaeology, gastronomy, religion, and art. One room is dedicated to local artists like Esther Fernández, a renowned actress from the golden age of Mexican cinema. Another room tells the story of San José María Robles Hurtado, one of the martyrs of the Cristero War. In other rooms, you will find paintings from various periods, pre-Hispanic pieces, and elements of regional cuisine.

El Molino Museum

Located in a former flour mill, it showcases the operation of the mill with an exhibition that includes original pieces. This is a unique museum in the entire region.

Yerbabuena Community Museum

This museum belongs to the city's chronicler and exhibits photographs and pieces that tell the history of the place.

"El Pantano" Archaeological Site

Here, a cemetery dating back to 800 BC was discovered. The site has more than 40 pits with the remains of 175 individuals and over 600 objects that belonged to the offerings.

Yerbabuena Community

Located just two kilometers from Mascota, this is a typical mountain village with red-roofed houses, a beautiful chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, and a community museum. There is also a small lagoon that adds charm to the town as it is home to geese and ducks.

Located only 2 km from Mascota, it offers a place known as Mesa Colorada, named after the color of the large rocks that characterize it and where the Galope stream flows, forming pleasant waterfalls and pools where you can refresh yourself. Not far from there, about 300 m away, you can explore the enigmatic petroglyphs engraved on several rocks.
