HOME TO ONE OF MEXICO'S MOST IMPORTANT SHRINES

An ancient town founded in 1541, now a fundamental part of the urban area of the metropolis.

Zapopan is the second most populous municipality in Jalisco and the seventh most populous in Mexico. The name Tzapopan or Tzapotl was given by the indigenous groups that founded it and it means "place of zapote trees". Tzapopan or Tzapotl, le fue dado por los grupos indígenas que la fundaron y significa “lugar de zapotes”.

It boasts various tourist attractions, modern top-notch shopping centers, important entertainment venues, and the finest hotels in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. In contrast, it also offers different alternatives for ecotourism such as El Diente and the La Primavera Forest, among others.

Here, the pilgrimage of the Virgin of Zapopan takes place, one of the most important religious celebrations nationwide. On October 12th, thousands of Catholic faithful come to witness the return of "La Generala" to its shrine, the Basilica of Zapopan. The Basilica of Zapopán is the third most important pilgrimage site in the country.
