MODERN CITY WITH DEEPLY ROOTED TRADITIONS

The capital of the state and the second most populous and important city in Mexico, internationally famous as the birthplace of mariachi, tequila, and for having one of the richest craft centers in the country, Tlaquepaque.

Its name comes from the Arabic Wad-al-Hidjara, which means "river that runs between stones" or "rocky river". In recent years, it has been characterized by having one of the most extensive cultural agendas on the continent. It is one of the Mexican cities with the largest number of artistic institutions, including the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra, the Folkloric Ballet of the University of Guadalajara, the Ballet de Cámara de Jalisco, the classical ballet of the Hospicio Cabañas, and the Contemporary Dance Company of the University of Guadalajara.

The Pearl of the West in Mexico is a majestic city with monuments, parks, flowers, fountains, and lined trees along its avenues. It is a lively city with a subtle allure that keeps first-time visitors entertained for weeks. The rich heritage of colonial Mexico is evident everywhere, with its enormous cathedral standing out as a symbol of the city.

The great metropolis includes other municipalities such as Zapopan, Tlajomulco, Tlaquepaque, and Tonalá, the last two of which are globally renowned for the quality and variety of their crafts.

Guadalajara has several celebrations throughout the year, such as Holy Week, the San Pedro Fair celebrated in Tlaquepaque in the last week of June, the International Mariachi and Charreria Encounter held in late August and early September, the Romería religious festival in October when the Virgin of Zapopan is transferred from the Metropolitan Cathedral to the Basilica of Zapopan, followed by all the faithful, the Foundation of Guadalajara celebrated on February 14th, the Guadalajara International Book Fair, which is the most important annual event of its kind in the Spanish-speaking world and takes place in late November, and the International Film Festival held in March.

La temperatura promedio en Guadalajara es de 19.2ºC.
