GUADALAJARA AND ZAPOPAN
A few kilometers from Guadalajara there are several parks where you can take walks enjoying the scenery. Of these we can mention Barranca de Oblatos with a depth of 500-meter (1,640 feet), Barranca de Huentitlan, Parque Independencia and tBosque de Los Colomos.
Tlajomulco
In the municipality of Tlajomulco, Cerro Viejo is located, an ideal place for hiking and camping. It is located half an hour from Guadalajara.
Bosque Primavera
Here there are several routes such as El Carbón, which runs along a path through the wooded landscape until it reaches a canyon. Other routes are Cerro de Colli and La Lobera.
MAZAMITLA
In Mazamitla you can explore its tourist corridor walking through Cerro del Tigre, which offers impressive panoramic views from the top, even on clear days you can see as far as the state of Michoacán. The route is made between coniferous forests with a rich fauna.
RIBERA DE CHAPALA
There is a route from Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos to reach Lake Cajititlán and further on to Mesa del Ocote. You will hike through the oak forests of the Sierra de San Juan Cosalá surrounded by beautiful landscapes. This path has a continuous ascent. The first kilometer is more challenging with a stony zig zag and a steep slope.
To the north of San Juan Cosalá, a few kilometers away, is El Limón. From here you start through an old gap with exuberant vegetation to begin an ascending path until you reach a stone at the top that serves as a viewpoint where you will enjoy a panoramic view of the Chapala Lagoon. You can continue along a path known as the Green Ring where you will pass a section of rocks until you reach the crest of the hill.
Hiking in Guadalajara
Another option from the town of San Juan Cosalá is to get to Cruz del Cerro. At the beginning there is little vegetation until you reach the Cross. From there the trail narrows and the vegetation increases considerably and along the way there are several places from where you can see the Chapala Lagoon.
In San Juan Cosalá you can also opt for a friendly trail without much inclination. At first you will cross fields and stretches of little vegetation. As soon as the ascent begins, the vegetation begins to increase. In the landscape you will see some ravines with copal and oak trees. The trail ends at La Cruz, which is located on the edge of the hill.
There are other hikes in this destination with various trails that explore the Sierra de San Juan Cosalá in different ways.
TAPALPA
EkoPark
In Tapalpa, the EkoPark has interesting trails and tours, even a night hike. Monterra Aventura offers the “El Saltito” route to walk between sidewalks and trails with lush vegetation and interesting rock formations.
TEQUILA
You can explore the surroundings of the Magical Town of Tequila and walk to the Tequila Canyon with a beautiful waterfall and a natural pool, as well as enjoy the agave landscape.

You can also explore Cañón de los Azules, which offers narrow trails to reach its beautiful waterfall.
