CRADLE OF INDEPENDENCE

Dolores Hidalgo, known as the Cradle of National Independence, is a colonial gem founded in 1610.

It is a place where you can experience history through its streets, churches, squares, and museums.

Dolores Hidalgo is also known for its important production and export of Talavera-style ceramics, used to create vases, dishes, and a wide variety of decorative pieces.

It is located 44 km (45 minutes) from San Miguel de Allende, 54 km (1 hour) from Guanajuato, and 318 km (4 and a half hours) from Mexico City.

Atractivos Turísticos en Dolores Hidalgo

Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Dolores (Parish)

The town features beautiful buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries, such as the Parish of Nuestra Señora de Dolores, the site where the Cry of Independence took place.

La Casa de Visitas

One of the most beautiful houses in the town, built in 1786 in a stunning Baroque style.

José Alfredo Jiménez Museum

It is the birthplace of the great composer and features nine rooms displaying some of his charro outfits, trophies, and even some songs.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 hrs.

National Independence Museum

Located in an 18th-century building, it has seven rooms displaying folk art, as well as a tribute to Miguel Hidalgo and documents related to the Independence. Additionally, a section of the museum pays homage to José Alfredo Jiménez.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 16:00 hrs.

Museo Histórico Casa de Hidalgo (Historical Museum)

Located in a building dating back to 1779, once inhabited by Father Hidalgo.

It became a museum in 1946 and houses a collection of furniture, objects, and documents related to this important historical figure, as well as a banner of the Virgin of Guadalupe and priestly garments.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Bicentennial Museum

It features five rooms displaying over 800 objects that were part of the Centennial celebrations of Independence, including Porfirio Díaz's phonograph.

The museum also offers a multimedia space that covers topics such as the Industrial Revolution and post-revolutionary Mexico.

Opening hours: Monday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Dos Búhos Winery

In the surrounding area, you can visit Dos Búhos Winery, which offers courses on organic viticulture and enology.

Hacienda de la Erre

Considered one of the oldest haciendas in the country and the first headquarters of the insurgent army in 1810 at the beginning of the independence movement. It is located just 8 km from the center of this Magical Town.

Other Attractions

Other important buildings include the Temple of the Third Order, dating back to 1755; the Municipal Presidency; the Casa de Abasolo, the birthplace of the insurgent hero Mariano Abasolo in 1784; and the Temple of the Lord of Llanito, built in 1778, which features magnificent murals.
