TOP SIGHTS IN LEÓN
Arco Triunfal de la Calzada de los Héroes (Triumphal Arch)
Symbol of the city made in 1893 to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the Independence of Mexico.
The arch is crowned by a three-meter-long bronze lion, the work of sculptor Humberto Peraza. The arch is located on the Heroes' Causeway.
On March 16, 1958 the Lion was added, the sculpture is made of masonry, bricks, rod, mixing and modeling with cement. The Lion was exhibited for several days in the Municipal Palace and then mounted on this arch. Occasionally, the city government decorates the arch to give it a more patriotic look.

Casa de las Monas
This building dates back to 1870.
It was the Government Palace, Municipal Palace and currently houses one of the galleries of the Cultural Institute of León, it also has a nice restaurant.
Its name (House of the dolls), so popular among the residents, comes from the caryatids that adorn its façade, which give the impression of holding the weight of this symbolic building in their arms.

Estadio “Nou Camp”
It is the modern stadium that was the World Cup venue in 1986 and is home to Club León.
Its name means “new field” in Catalan and it was named because of its resemblance to the Barcelona Club stadium in Spain.
It has a capacity of 31,297 spectators and was built in 1967.
Due to its excellent location and facilities, this stadium hosted matches for the 1970 FIFA World Cup, the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship and the 1986 FIFA World Cup. It also hosted football matches during the 1968 Olympic Games.

Palacio Municipal (City Hall)
This building has housed the local government since 1869.
It was built in an Jonic style, over the Great College of the Seminary of the Pauline Fathers, who left the city in 1860.
From 1861 to 1867 it was used as military army barracks until the French Intervention.

This is one of the most beautiful buildings in León. The first stone was laid in 1921 and its construction took more than 90 years.
