Metropolitano Parque de León
It's a Protected Natural Area covering 337 hectares, dominated by the 85% of the Palote Dam's reservoir, which supports a great variety of animal and plant life.
It's a green lung used as an ideal recreational area for outdoor sports enthusiasts. It has two tracks of over seven kilometers each for runners, bicycles, and four-wheelers, offering beautiful scenery along the reservoir.
The Metropolitan Park of León is a must-visit place where you can enjoy boat rides or kayaking and explore the ruins of an 1758 hacienda submerged by the dam's waters.
In the park, you can see over 200 bird species, including migratory and resident ones like pelicans, ducks, herons, seagulls, ibex, and cormorants, among many others.
As an attraction for children, there are playgrounds. Additionally, the park offers a Little Farm where kids can interact with animals and play in the "Children's City," a miniature replica of a city with streets, monuments, and traffic lights. There's also a train that goes around the 7 km perimeter of the reservoir.
The park also has food and beverage vendors.
The Metropolitan Park of León is famous for being the venue of the International Hot Air Balloon Festival held every year in November.
