Mexcaltitán is known for its unique handicrafts made from mangroves and barcinas, spheres created from manta fabric (a feather-light, gauze-like fabric, made from 100% cotton) and palm leaves and used to preserve dried shrimp.

Another product that is used to create handicrafts is the water lily, which is something positive, since the lily has become a problem for the estuaries and riverbanks of Nayarit because it prevents fishing.

In this Magical Town the artisians have created bags, sandals, fans, tortilla holders, jewelry, lamps and hats, among many other products, with the lilies. This is a positive way to use a plant that otherwise would have become a plague.
