The artisans of this beautiful town have preserved the tradition of painting in oil with the fingers and applying enamel with brushes made with cat hair. With this technique called lacquer or maque some amazing pieces are created like: chests, toys, dishes, trunks, furniture, musical instruments and the masks of the "parachicos". In each of these objects, artisans reflect their artistic sense by painting in detail, flowers, animals, landscapes and figures in intense colors, which result in unique creations.

The talented artisans in this area have managed to create true works of art in wood carving figures like religious figurines, decoration products, utensils for dining, and many others. The most famous piece is the Parachico mask, a piece carved of wood and decorated with lacquer, it has a unique perfection and beauty.

Lacquering is one of Chiapa de Corzo's artisanal crafts and specialties and is characterized for the colors and decoration with crosses, sunflowers, margaritas and roses, among many other colorful items.

Honoring the Chiapas tradition, you can also find garments and fans with impressive embroidery. In these embroidery not only you find flowers but also figures of Chiapas, Parachicos and Jaguars.
