WITH CARIBBEAN FLAIR AND MANY SURPRISES TO BE REVEALED
Chetumal means "place where red cedar abounds" in the Mayan language. It is the capital of the state founded in 1898 with the name of Payo Obispo, featuring English-style wooden houses. The city has preserved the wonderful charm of the province, reflected in the friendliness of its people.
It boasts a magnificent hotel infrastructure, an airport, and wide roads that connect with the rest of the country.
Among its attractions is the Boulevard that crosses the entire Chetumal Bay, being the longest in the entire Yucatan Peninsula. You can stroll along it and admire some of the monuments like the Fisherman's Monument, the Manatee Monument, and the one dedicated to the resilience of the inhabitants after the impact of Hurricane Janet. Enjoy the restaurants and festive atmosphere, making it the perfect place to witness beautiful sunrises.
It's a pleasure to wander through the city and admire its typical and colorful wooden houses, characteristic of this Caribbean region.
A classic and delicious treat in Chetumal is the "machacado," a sort of sweet shaved ice. It's prepared with fresh fruit, such as banana, pineapple, papaya, watermelon, mamey, zapote, nanche, or peach, topped with condensed milk. Don't miss trying it!
