Cancún means "Golden Serpent" in the language of the Maya. Cancun has the most modern and functional airport in Latin America and the Caribbean with flights and connections around the world. It’s easy to fly to Cancún, about one hour and a half from Miami and four hours from Chicago and New York. Many airlines offer flights from several cities in Mexico, the U.S., Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Take one of the first class buses from Mexico City, Mérida, and other major cities in southeast Mexico. Cancún is at the end of Route 180, which extends from Matamoros on the Texas border to Campeche, Mérida, and Valladolid. The drive from Texas to Cancún can take three days, but it is well worth it.
