Casa de la Cultura (House of Culture)

The House of Culture is located in the Main Square, this building dates back to the 19th century.

Workshops in dance, poetry, theater, and crafts are offered in this place. Additionally, it serves as a venue for various art exhibitions, concerts, and theater performances.

Just a few steps away from the House of Culture, there are several stores selling typical regional crafts such as hammocks, embroidery, wood carvings, and other textiles.

Casa Internacional del Escritor

The International House of Writers was created with the purpose of providing a space to comfortably accommodate writers and artists, both national and international.

Due to its beautiful gardens and attractive surroundings, it has hosted important events such as the First National Meeting of Film Writers and the First International Diploma for Writers, among others.

Fuerte de San Felipe

San Felipe Fort was built in 1733 to defend the region from pirates. It is a formidable military structure with thick walls, bastions at its four corners, and a 4-meter-deep moat.

During the Caste War, the rebels practically destroyed the fort. Out of the 34 cannons it once housed, only eleven can be seen today.

Iglesia de San Joaquín

An 18th-century construction located in the center of Bacalar, surrounded by beautiful gardens, where an impressive ceiba tree stands out in the atrium.

It is dedicated to the patron saint of Bacalar, San Joaquín, and inside, you can appreciate the figure of this saint, as well as some murals that depict the history of the Caste War.

Urban legends tell that due to the violence of the Caste War in this region, there are ghosts wandering near the Church of San Joaquín. If you are a fan of mystery, you can try exploring it at night.

Plaza Principal (Main Plaza)

Located in the upper part of the town, it consists of a central park with a gazebo and beautiful gardens.

It is the meeting point for all residents, where you can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and savor a delicious ice cream.

The square is surrounded by houses in vibrant colors with gable roofs, among which the House of Culture stands out.
