ONE OF THE LAST VIRGIN BEACHES OF THE MEXICAN CARIBBEAN
It is one of the last virgin beaches of the Caribbean, with the unique charm of a relaxed and quiet atmosphere for those who like to enjoy nature. One of the nicest places to watch the sunrise.
Thanks to breaking waves and world currents, if you walk very early in this beach, expect to find conch shells, snail shells, clamshells, bamboo, fan coral, Elkhorn coral, brain coral, sponge, and many other objects.
This beautiful place offer small hotels but there are many things to do like ride a bicycle, rent a scooter, or have a relax massage.
If you just want to relax swing in a hammock under a palm tree in this little paradise, and at nights you can watch the stars and the moon can be so bright that you can even read a book.
It is also an excellent place for snorkeling, the sandy bottom is only few meters deep and the beautiful clear blue is full of colorful fishes. Diving is also an unforgettable experience, with arches in the reef and schools of meter-long tarpons. Beside Xcalak is a premier fly-fishing destination, all year round you can fish permit, mackerel, tuna, barracuda, grouper, snapper, tarpon, jacks, and snook; and from April to June, there is a lot of mahi, marlin and sailfish.

Kayaking is also a fun thing to do you can kayak in the quiet waters of the Caribbean or along the jungle, other options are skimboarding and stand up paddleboard.
Xcalak is a bird watchers paradise, near the sea you’ll find pipers, ibis, cranes, cormorants, egrets and pelicans, and on shore – pretty song birds, hawks, vultures, and roadrunners. Other good place is La Aguada, a mangrove area with more than 40 species of birds. You can get here in a kayak or by ferry.
You can also explore the lagoons located in the jungle around the beach, some of them have paths to get to this unique places.
Xcalak has five lighthouses worth visiting, three of them are near the town and the other is at La Aguada on the Chetumal Bay.
The Xcalak Marine Park is part of the Mesoamerican Reef System. The park is a paradise for divers for its incomparable biodiversity. Also, part of the park is the Huach River, located just 10 miles south of Xcalak, another place that worth a visit.
