In this plaza there were several historic buildings.

It was part of Colegio de la Enseñanza (College), and they were all demolished.

This space was occupied by the old garden of the College. It was located in one of the biggest convents in the area (Convento de la Compañía de María y Enseñanza). This was a nunnery and was built in the 18th century.

This Plaza is 4,000 m2 and located behind the Municipal Presidency. It was inaugurated in 1985.

In the square there is a sculptural group made up with pre-Hispanic elements.

In the center there is a sculpture titled “Tribute”, a creation by Luis Aragón made in quarry and the “Fountain of Identity” made up of three pieces. In the latest there is a modern piece that measures nine meters high, four meters thick and weighs more than twenty tons.

Another decorative element is a sculpture-mural also made from quarry and titled “Origins of Irapuato”.

Location

Calle Ramón Barreto de Tábora, Revolución y Calle Ramón Corona.
