Its name means "Forest of small amate trees".

It was in its surroundings where the first tequila distilleries were established over five centuries ago. That's why it is a place full of history and legends.

To enter the town, you have to pass through a sharp horseshoe-shaped curve that ends at the cemetery. Locals say that there have been many accidents here, so they have plenty of stories to tell.

It has a peculiar main square, as there is a spring running alongside it. Next to the spring, there are some caves that you can explore, although due to the humidity, we recommend wearing rubber boots.

But the attractions of Amatitán don't end there. Just two blocks from the square, you can visit an exceptional restaurant located in caves. Beyond the restaurant, you can explore the caves until you reach the spot where you can see the springwater emanating from the walls.

You can also visit the museum to learn more about the town's history.

Not far away is Hacienda La Cofradía, another mysterious and legendary place in the region.

You can enjoy the agave landscapes on a horseback ride and get closer to the impressive Tequila Volcano.

The Santa Rosa Dam is located just 20 minutes away. If you love nature, you shouldn't miss this tour, as the road is full of beautiful scenery.

It is located approximately an hour and a half from Guadalajara.
