Central Mexico
It is a coastal lagoon located 59 km from the city of San Ignacio. The lagoon stretches for 16 km in the desert and is approximately 8 km wide.
It is considered a sanctuary for the gray whale and from December to April you can see these impressive cetaceans that weigh up to 40 tons and measure up to 15 m.
The lagoon is divided into three parts: the upper one, which is the shallowest and is where the female whales travel to rear their young. In the middle part you can find the mothers with their young calves.. And in the lower part, you will find most of the cetaceans that traveled from the north.
The Lagoon is not only a sanctuary for the gray whale, but it is also a habitat for the pronghorn or American antelope, which is in danger of extinction, and for four of the seven species of sea turtles that inhabit the country: hawksbill, leatherback, green and olive ridley
