Construction of the temple began in 1897.
The project was led by Italian architect Adamo Boari. Construction was interrupted in 1911 due to the revolutionary movement and resumed in 1927 with architect Ignacio Día Morales in charge.
The temple was not completed until 1972 and features a neo-Gothic style with an impressive facade made of quarry stone divided into three sections, each with wooden doors made of granadillo.
The large rose windows and bronze figures embedded in the facade are noteworthy.
In the tower on the right side, there is a clock with four faces from Germany, which chimes at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 6:00 pm, accompanied by 12 dolls representing the apostles that appear below the clock.
Inside, there are long stained glass windows on both sides of the central apse depicting various biblical passages.
