KNOWN AS "THE ATHENS OF VERACRUZ" FOR ITS INTENSE CULTURAL ACTIVITY

Xalapa is a Nahuatl word that means "in the water of the sandy place," "place of sandy waters," or "spring in the sand." It is the capital of the state of Veracruz and is known as the "Veracruz Athens" due to its intense cultural activity.

Covered by fog for much of the year, which rises from the deep ravines that surround it, the city of Xalapa is located in a strategic point of the Veracruz mountains.
