Pico de Orizaba
With a height of 5610 meters above sea level, it is the highest mountain in the country and the third highest in the Americas, it is also part of a National Park. It has four hostels that serve as a starting point for ascents, two are located on the north slope, in a place called Piedra Grande; and the other on the side, in Torrecillas, at an altitude of 4,600 m. The latter is on the western slope at an altitude of 4,625 m.
During the ascent, various micro climates are discovered where a vegetation of oyamel, pine, ocote and oak forests prevails. From 4,000 meters above sea level, the presence of glaciers begins to be detected, where the accumulated ice reaches a thickness of between 20 and 50 m (65 to 164 ft).
XALAPA
Cofre de Perote
It is an interesting volcanic mountain with large canyons and immense cliffs reaching a height of 4282 meters above sea level.
Here you can practice the ascent to the mountain and it has two roads that ascend towards the slopes of the mountain, the first in the direction of Pocitos, crossing the community of Ticuahutipan, from where you can access the path that leads to three beautiful waterfalls with heights ranging from 15 to 80 m (49 to 262 ft). The second route goes from the scenic highway to the town of Tonalaco, which is located at an altitude of 2,500 meters above sea level.
Several routes arise from here to reach the foot of the rock at the top. As you ascend you can see how the vegetation is changing. At the top, in the rock formation, you can rappel. Located one hour 45 minutes from Xalapa.
