HISTORY AND COLONIAL ART

Centro Histórico de Querétaro, es un bien cultural inscrito en 1996 The Historic Center of Querétaro is a cultural heritage site inscribed in 1996 on the UNESCO World Heritage List..

Founded in 1531, the old colonial city of Santiago de Querétaro offers the uniqueness of having preserved its original indigenous core with winding streets, along with the geometric layout of the streets traced by the Spanish. This is a clear reflection of how the Otomí, Tarasco, Chichimeca, and Spanish populations peacefully coexisted in this city.

The city showcases its history through the covered streets and the civil and religious buildings characterized by their elaborate Baroque style, most of which date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. These beautiful constructions blend with pedestrian walkways paved with pink quarry stone, lovely squares, fountains, pleasant gardens, and monuments.

Querétaro is one of the most important and best-preserved colonial cities in central Mexico. Walking through its Historic Center is not only a journey to the past but also an opportunity to breathe in the tranquility of its beautiful squares and learn about its interesting legends that speak of the traditions and history of this fascinating city.

Querétaro

On the other hand, it is also a city with dynamic growth, modern infrastructure with wide avenues, impressive industrial zones, and large shopping centers like Antea Lifestyle Center, which is considered the largest shopping mall in Latin America.

Within the metropolitan area, you can also visit an archaeological site called El Cerrito, where altars, platforms, and plazas are preserved, speaking of the greatness of the cultures that once inhabited this place.

The Capital City is known for its extensive craftsmanship, including jewelry, lapidary work, wicker and rattan crafts, weaving and textiles, as well as leather goods.

The climate is semi-dry, characterized by a warm summer, with an average annual temperature of 18ºC.
