AMEALCO DE BONFIL
Chitejé de la Cruz
A simple town surrounded by pine and oak landscapes, ideal for camping or for excursions and hiking. Located 7 minutes southwest of Amealco de Bonfil.
Parque Natural La Beata (Natural Park)
The park offers an incredible pine and oak forested landscape where you can take several routes on its trails to explore its streams and springs, while you learn more about the flora and fauna of the region. Located in the community of La Beata, 20 minutes from Amealco de Bonfil.
BERNAL
Peña de Bernal
Río Blanco (White River)
It is the ideal place to rest and hiking. Located near Peñamiller, an hour and 45 minutes from Bernal.
JALPAN DE SERRA
Pinal de Amoles
In the surroundings of this beautiful town you can walk through the Angostura Canyon, or continue through El Cedral or La Gachupina, wooded areas surrounded by cedars, pines and oaks, recommended for camping.
Continuing in the vicinity of Pinal de Amoles, you can also explore the Cuatro Palos Viewpoint with a panoramic view of the Cerro de la Media Luna, the mountains, the Peña de Bernal and the former Convent of Bucareli.
In the Bucareli Camp you can explore the banks of the Extoraz River and El Plátano stream. On the way there are some caves with cave paintings, orchards with fruit trees and beautiful natural landscapes.
Hiking in Querétaro
Sierra Gorda
One of the natural wonders of the Sierra Gorda is the Puente de Dios, a wonderful formation located in the vicinity of Pinal de Amoles, it is surrounded by incredible landscapes, making it one of the most recommended places for hiking. To get to this splendid cave there are several paths with small improvised bridges to avoid the streams and pools of crystalline waters that lead to the Escanela River that crosses the Angostura Canyon, where beautiful formations result in a living stone garden. When going through the canyon you can see the mouth of the Mina Grande that produced gold and silver, as well as several turquoise blue pools.
Another of the surprises that the Sierra Gorda keeps is the Sótano del Barro, a cavity of more than 500 m (1,640 ft) in diameter considered one of the deepest abysses on earth and habitat of the green macaw, which when it comes out make an incredible circular choreography.
Campamento Las Trancas (Camp)
In the vicinity of the camp you can visit the La Gotera Canyon and a cave with incredible natural pillars that have been formed over the years by joining the stalactites and stalagmites.
Las Adjuntas
It is a place where the Ayutla rivers, with crystalline turquoise waters, and Santa María, with shades of yellow, green, and brown converge. Like there was an invisible barrier between the two, their waters do not mix creating a truly amazing visual effect. On the banks there are willows and junipers. Located just half an hour from Jalpan de Serra.
Fósiles El Madroño
Another interesting option is to walk the trails that lead to the El Madroño Fossils, located near the town of the same name, 50 kilometers from Jalpan de Serra. The deposit has a great diversity of fossils in an exceptional state of conservation that date back at least 100 million years, which makes it a unique place in the country.
QUERÉTARO
El Cimatorio National Park
The park has 2,500 hectares where you can enjoy a beautiful landscape and explore its trails that can lead you to a couple of interesting caves full of legends. Hiring a local guide will give you the opportunity to know a wide range of trails for varying abilities.
Bucareli
Las Trancas Camp has rustic cabins with spectacular views of the mountains, dining room and camping area. In addition, you can take walks in the surroundings and visit the cave at the top of a mountain that is located in front of the camp that has two huge stalactites at the entrance. Located 23 minutes from Bucareli and 3 hours and a half from Querétaro.
