Chiapas handcrafts and folk art is a combination of the ancient culture and the artistic sense of some of its ethnic groups such as the Maya, Zoque or Lacandon.

Handicrafts in Amatenango del Valle
The potters of this town are famous for the delicacy with which they work with white clay and make ornamental pieces and articles for practical use such as pots, pitchers, vessels, vases, vases, pots, earthenware and the famous clay pigeons and jaguars.

The talented artisans in this area have managed to create true works of art in wood carving figures like religious figurines, decoration products, utensils for dining, and many others. The most famous piece is the Parachico mask, a piece carved of wood and decorated with lacquer, it has a unique perfection and beauty.
Lacquering is one of Chiapa de Corzo's artisanal crafts and specialties and is characterized for the colors and decoration with crosses, sunflowers, margaritas and roses, among many other colorful items.
Honoring the Chiapas tradition, you can also find garments and fans with impressive embroidery. In these embroidery not only you find flowers but also figures of Chiapas, Parachicos and Jaguars.
Chiapa de Corzo, has many cooperatives of amber artisians, since this stone is a notable natural resource in the state and has become the preferred raw material by expert jewelers combining the amber with other precious metals like gold and silver to create bracelets, necklaces, pendants, rings and earrings. Another stone used for jewelry in the region is the jade.
Many of these products can be acquired around the main square.
Handicrafts in San Cristóbal de las Casas
Thanks to the smoothness of the tejamanil wood, which is easily found in the region, original toys have been manufactured such as: carts, beds, furniture and boxes with their characteristic colored decoration. You can also find unique Rag dolls with typical customs.
One of the crafts most appreciated by visitors is metalwork. Using tin and iron as the main raw material, artisans using the old methods of hammering produce railings, crosses, knockers and other objects with a clear influence from the colonial era.

Handicrafts in San Juan Chamula and Tzeltales towns in the region of Ocosingo
The community produces a diversity of handicrafts made with sheep wool (considered a sacred animal) such as blouses, bags, rebozos and huipiles, as well as colorful belts.
Chamula dolls are also made with wool and are the most typical crafts of the region. You also find some animals such as roosters, cats, lions, elephants or monkeys.
You can also find palms hats, musical instruments and leather objects.
Additionally, the abundance in chiapas of plant fibers such as palm or Ixtle, have led to the development of products with these materials such as baskets, baskets, petates, rugs and various ornamental objects.

Like any other place in Chiapas, the handcrafts reflect a great cultural richness.
Here you can find colorful dolls dressed in the typical costumes of the different regions of the state, as well as pieces carved in wood.
Also in the region there are “pumpos” that are made with dry pumpkins and decorated with polychrome flowers and some other zoomorphic figures.
