The craftmen in Colima have turned magic and imagination into rich and varied craft. The artisans use different materials such as: wood, leather, paper, metal, vegetable fibers, textiles and mud, among other materials.

However one distinguished craft are the beautiful parota furniture with a clear Spanish influence in its desing and decorated with oil paintings.

This is the capital city where you can find a wide variety of craft creations. In pottery there are pots, pans, coffee pots, sugar bowls, coffee pots, jars, as well as reproductions of archaeological pieces with the traditional techniques of ancient red-burnished ceramics.

You can also find beautiful coconut handicrafts, derived from the palm and based on corn starch paste, with which beautiful flowers full of color are created.

The use of wood from the region such as cedar, spring, purple rose, parota, snake, ironwood, balsam, together with the creativity of its artisans result in a wide variety of incredible products such as: furniture, plate holders, key rings, napkin rings. , candy boxes, screens, pens, earrings, bracelets, as well as puzzles of dragons, birds and dolls.

The production of palm hats is distinguished by its quality, especially the so-called "colimote". Woven sandals known as “huaraches” are also produced in Colima.

There are also a wide variety of crafts made with tin like: milk cans, birdcages, funnels and many other household items.

Among the textiles, production is limited to the embroidery of "Indian" costumes, made with the cross-stitch technique, with red thread on white cloth.

In this town you can buy extraordinary ceramic works such as pots, casseroles and molcajetes.

Comala is also famous for making mahogany and parota furniture, as well as various decorative items. The beautiful furniture have unique elements as the wrought iron and are painated with colorful designs.

The themes represented in these pieces of furniture are varied and range from stylized birds such as doves, canaries, pheasants, quails and cardinals, to flowers, fruits and butterflies. Comala has remarkable furnitures and that is why the products are being exported to different parts of the world.

These handicrafts can be purchased at the Comala Craft Center.

In the community of Zacualpan you can find handmade embroidered blanket clothes where you can see the traditions that have been inherited from generation to generation. Within the themes of embroidery are birds, flowers, foliage and fretwork.

In this town you will find hammocks woven with “acapán” fiber.

Small community located just 7 km from Comala, protects the heritage of Maestro Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo, who created an special wood painting technique to create beautiful pieces in wood. He uses mainly all kind of birds like quails, pheasants and cardinals, among others. These beautiful paintings decorates the furniture, creating tables, dining rooms, chairs, watches, as well as some other unique pieces.

The artisans also produce lanterns and lamps, of all types and sizes for interior and exterior.

Santiago is located near Manzanillo, and it is characterized by the manufacture of snail shell crafts.
