Campeche has preserved in their customs and traditions a rich variety of crafts. You can find crafts in the eleven municipalities that form the state and although in many cases the production and the design has been modernized, the pieces haven’t lost the artistic touch, or the ancestral heritage.
The craft activity in Campeche has a value that is recognized regionally, nationally and internationally. In his art you can see the Mayan heritage with all its knowledge and worldview, as well as the Spanish influence that brought new techniques and craft branches. And although in some cases the elaboration and design have been modernized, at no time has its artistic touch and its ancestral heritage been lost.
Many of the pieces are handmade and very unique natural resources from the State of Campeche are used.
Crafts have evolved and is part of the cultural, social, and economic life of Campeche, since it symbolizes a way of living, believing, and working for many people from Campeche.
Campeche preserves within its customs and traditions a rich artisan inventory, with a great variety of products and a significant volume of production. The craft activity is carried out in the eleven municipalities that make up the State and among the main craft branches that are practiced in the State of Campeche are:

Handicrafts in the city of Campeche
In the City of Campeche you can find two spaces to appreciate all the crafts of the State.
The first is the Casa de Artesanías Tukulná (The House of Thought) which is housed in a colonial house built at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. This beautiful construction was developed around a patio and was rebuilt in 1993 to become a House of Crafts.
It consists of 8 exhibition rooms where the handcrafted pieces are organized into departments: ladies, gentlemen, children's, kitchen, furniture, etc.
Here you will find all kinds of colorful pieces of clay, wood, baskets, textiles, and much more.Campeche is famous for the jipi hats because they’re made from the la palma jipijapa although in English is known as Panama hats. Becal, a small town just over the Campeche border, produce some of the best hats in the world. There are some other crafts made with seashells and fish scales as well as gorgeous hand embroidered clothing.
Another highly recommended products that you can take home are habanero peppers and jars of honey and its derivatives with medicinal properties and antibacterial activity. Another delicious souvenir are the “chiles habaneros”, a very hot chile with fruity flavor.
The second space where you can enjoy the beautiful crafts is the Craft Bazaar, located on the boardwalk of the capital city of Campeche.
It has modern facilities where you can visit more than 31 stands staffed by artisans from different branches. Each one offers you different options with unique pieces. In addition, you will be able to observe its elaboration or simply learn more about the value of each handmade piece.
Campeche awaits you with open arms to bring you a jipijapa hat woven by hand in caves, or perhaps an accessory such as a pair of bull horn earrings, or perhaps a wooden chair from the region such as granadilla with a comfortable body made of hammock, or simply a textile for any special occasion.

Handicrafts in Tenabo, Hecelchakán, Dzibalché, Xcupil and Santa Rita, Campeche
These communities are known for its fine embroidery. You can buy the traditional dress with colorful flowers embroidered on the necklines and hems, as well as blouses, dresses and housewares with the same motif.
Handicrafts in Champotón, Escárcega and Palizada
Champotón, Escárcega and Palizada elaborate carved wood pieces, incorporating elements such as shells, fabrics and Jipi palm.
Among the pieces, there are: napkin rings, towel racks, finely decorated photo frames, jewelry and beautiful boats.

Handicrafts in Becal, Santa Cruz, San Nicolás and Tankuché
They are distinguished by being the only place in the country where the jipi palm is woven, since first it has to be selected in a very rigorous way and its production process is very laborious.
Here the famous Jipi palm hats are made, recognized as: Becaleños hats. Fiber dyeing adds color and beauty to these crafts. Craftsmen also produce purses, cigarette cases and bags.
