"THE SWITZERLAND OF MEXICO"

Founded in 1591, it is a destination characterized by its wooded landscapes abundant in pine and apple trees, as well as its snow-capped peaks.

The mountains that surround this beautiful Magical Town are La Viga, La Martha, and La Siberia, offering a variety of options for nature and ecotourism lovers.

The climate is generally temperate, with warm summers and temperatures ranging between 25ºC and 30ºC. However, during the winter months, it can get cold, with temperatures dropping as low as -10ºC.

It is located just 15 km (15 minutes) from Saltillo, 162 km (2 hours) from Parras de la Fuente, 271 km (3 hours) from Torreón, and 92 km (1 hour and 20 minutes) from Monterrey.

Tourist Attractions in Arteaga

Municipal Presidency

One of the important buildings in town, built in 1868. It features an impressive mural.

Casa Carranza

It served as the headquarters for Carranza's Constitutional Army and is now the Municipal Archive, exhibiting photographs, writings, and historical documents.

Alameda Venustiano Carranza

It is a tranquil park covering over two hectares. A beautiful tree-lined place to relax and walk along shaded paths. On Sundays, it hosts a market where you can enjoy typical dishes and local crafts.

Temple of San Isidro Labrador de las Palomas

Its construction began in 1790 and was completed in 1954. It has a single tower with four sections and a distinctive clock. The facade showcases large pilasters with two niches in the center.

Mummy Museum

It is a place dedicated to the five well-preserved mummies exhumed from the local cemetery. This peculiar museum also exhibits various objects related to the natural history of the state, as well as some fossils.

Huachichil

It is a picturesque town near Arteaga, with its Santo Cristo Church and an extraordinary vineyard where you can taste a delicious Pinot Noir and experience if it's truly a place "where the clouds touch the mountains," as the winery's motto suggests.

Wineries

In Juan de los Dolores, there is another vineyard nestled in an incredible landscape at the foothills of Sierra La Nieve, at an altitude of 2,600 meters above sea level. It is one of the highest vineyards in the country, producing Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.

Another nearby vineyard is Bodegas Los Cedros, where they produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and Pinot Noir. Here, you can also find a beautiful pond and piñon pine trees.

The surrounding area offers a range of spectacular elevations, valleys, and canyons ideal for camping, mountain biking, rappelling, and hiking.

Other nearby places to connect with nature include Cañón de la Carbonera and El Tunal.

Practice winter sports in the "Switzerland of Mexico"

The Sierra de Arteaga is covered with pine forests, and during winter, snow blankets much of the area, earning it the nickname "Switzerland of Mexico." This makes for unique landscapes.

Here, you will find Bosques de Monterreal, a spectacular tourist development with cabins, a 230-meter-long ski slope operating year-round, zip-lining, a restaurant, and a golf course. It is also a beautiful place for hiking, rappelling, camping, horseback riding, and ATV rides.

There is a secondary slope of about 45 meters used for sledding, providing a unique experience, especially for children.

For rappelling enthusiasts, there is a 7-meter wall in Monterreal. Additionally, in Cañón Balcones, there are five rappelling spots ranging from 15 to 30 meters in height, surrounded by a beautiful pine and oak forest.

Climb a beautiful mountain

For hiking enthusiasts, El Cielo Mountain is not far from Arteaga. It is classified as a level II hike, meaning moderate difficulty, with an altitude of 3,122 meters above sea level. A little further, 6 km from the Monterreal resort, is Cerro de la Martha, which reaches an altitude of 3,700 meters above sea level and is therefore slightly more challenging. Both offer beautiful forest landscapes.
