PALEONTOLOGICAL ROUTE IN COAHUILA
There are big surprises to be discover in this route.
The purpose of the route is to explore fossil-rich areas and dinosaur tracks and learn about life in the Late Cretaceous period.
The desert of Coahuila holds countless secrets that are still waiting to be unveiled, especially in the region of General Cepeda, one of its most magical places, where remnants dating back thousands of years can be easily found. Whether it's on the walls of rock formations, where you can spot some petroglyphs, or underground, where fossils that are over 70 million years old can be discovered, this region is full of wonders from the Cretaceous era.
On the route, you'll find Narigua, which offers a wide variety of rocks with petroglyphs carved by the Pachos tribe approximately six thousand years ago. Within these engravings, you can see that these inhabitants already had knowledge of both mathematics and the movement of celestial bodies.
The next important stop is Rincón Colorado, located about 44 km from Saltillo, specifically in the Ejido Porvenir de Jalpa, where a large number of fossils and dinosaur tracks have been found. Some of the replicas of these findings are displayed at the Rincón Colorado Museum, while the originals are exhibited at the Desert Museum in Saltillo.
