This place can be your starting point to explore all the interesting sites that Maya Ka'an offers.
It was founded in 1850 and was initially named Noj Kaaj Santa Cruz Xbalam Naj K'ampokolche, later changing its name in honor of a Yucatecan leader named Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
The place is filled with history, starting with being a sanctuary for the rebellious Mayan "cruzoob" or rebels during the Caste War, which is why it is also known as the "Town of Warriors."
This place offers a rich gastronomy that you can enjoy in the bustling market, as well as interesting buildings such as the Parish of Santa Cruz and the Sanctuary of the Talking Cross, a mystical place where it is said that the Maya gathered strength to continue their war against the Spanish in 1850.
You can also visit the Contemporary Museum of Maya Culture and the Center for Healing and Traditional Maya Medicine.
Activities in the area include swimming or kayaking in the Sijil Noh Ha cenote lagoon or exploring the trails of the Much Kaanan K'aax Reserve on foot or by bike.
