In its beginnings, the Cathedral was a hermitage consecrated to Archangel San Miguel.

Later, it became the Chapel of the Rosary.

In 1931, it was named a cathedral when the episcopal seat changed from Papantla to Teziutlán.

This construction is a mix of styles, with elements of Baroque, Romanesque, and Neoclassical architecture.

Its facade is made of pink quarry stone, featuring thick pillars with Ionic columns adorning the windows with stained glass. The facade also displays a clock.

It has two monumental towers composed of three bodies each, topped with their respective bell towers.

Inside, the image of the Immaculate Virgin of the Assumption, the patron saint of the city, stands out. Her feast is celebrated in August.
