Tourist Attractions in Santa Rosalía
Benito Juárez Plaza
The town’s gathering place, characterized by colorful bougainvillea and a French-style kiosk adorned with gargoyles at its corners. Around the plaza, you'll find some emblematic buildings and various restaurants where you can taste local delicacies.
Palacio Municipal (City Hall)
Built in 1892 and reconstructed in 1923, it served as a secondary school until 1978 when it was remodeled to house the Mulegé City Hall.
Iglesia de Santa Bárbara
This building was designed by French engineer Gustave Eiffel, known for creating the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It was originally a project for the 1889 Paris Universal Exposition and is the first prefabricated church installed in Mexico. Some believe it’s not Eiffel's work due to the lack of documentation. Nonetheless, it’s a beautiful building with delicate blue and brown stained glass worth visiting.
Coastal Walkway
A great place to admire the coast and enjoy the beautiful sunrises and sunsets of Santa Rosalía.
Museo de Historia de la Minería (Mining History Museum)
The town's history is tied to mining, founded by the French company El Boleo in the late 19th century when it obtained a concession to exploit copper deposits.
Located in what were the company's main offices, the museum exhibits various pieces, furniture, and equipment narrating this history, including "El Trenecito," a small locomotive used in the mines. Open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 15:00 hrs.
Casa de la Cultura (House of Culture)
Located in the former El Boleo store, built in 1901. It offers workshops and cultural activities.
Tourist Mines in Santa Rosalía
There are four caves, three of which are open to the public and showcase life in Santa Rosalía during the mining period.
Black Beaches in Santa Rosalía
The color of these beaches was caused by slag from the old El Boleo mine. Miners used to dump mining waste on barges about 25-30 kilometers from the coast, at Isla La Tortuga. The sea brought this slag back to shore. These unique landscapes are great for water sports, including fishing.
