Andador Constitución

This is a pedestrian promenade located alongside the 20 de Noviembre portal.

It features benches and outdoor cafes. A beautiful fountain in the center of the promenade stands out, displaying a reproduction of the sculpture of David by Donatello.

Mariachi groups often gather here and offer their services.

Cámara de Diputados (Chamber of Deputies)

A beautiful neoclassical building.

Its facade is covered in quarry stone and "tezontle" (a volcanic rock), and it is located facing Plaza de los Mártires.

Inside, the murals by artist Leopoldo Flores are remarkable.

Jardín Botánico – Cosmovitral (Botanical Garden)

The building was inaugurated in 1933 as the "16 de septiembre" market and served as such for over 40 years.

In 1979, it was renovated to house extraordinary stained glass windows and a botanical garden, opening its doors to the public on July 5, 1980.

Los Portales de Toluca

They are considered the most extensive porticos in the country, with 118 arches, and have been the center of social and commercial life in Toluca.

Their construction began in 1832 by José María González. Each of the three porticos has a name: the eastern one, with 37 arches, is called 20 de Noviembre.

Palacio de Gobierno (Government Palace)

This building dates back to 1967. It occupies the site where the State Historical Archive, the State Museum of Mexico, the Public Library, and the Pípila Alley were located.

It features a neocolonial facade that creates a beautiful architectural ensemble with the other buildings facing Plaza de los Mártires. On the west staircase, there are impressive murals created to commemorate the Bicentennial of Mexico's Independence.

It is one of the most representative plazas in León, also known as the Main Square.

The square was previously known as Jardín de los Mártires (Garden of the Martyrs). Here, you can find a monument dedicated to Miguel Hidalgo, created by the artist Rivalda in 1899.

On the north and south sides of the pedestal, there are two beautiful reliefs representing the capture of the Granary of Granaditas and the Battle of Monte de las Cruces.

This magnificent square is surrounded by important buildings such as the Government Palace and the Chamber of Deputies, as well as the Superior Court of Justice.

 

Palacio Municipal (City Hall)

A neoclassical-style building constructed between 1872 and 1873.

The Municipal Palace was built on the grounds formerly occupied by the cemetery of the Franciscan convent of Our Lady of the Assumption.

Originally, the building had a neoclassical facade, but in the late 1960s, it was decided to change it to ensure a homogeneous architectural style among all the buildings in Plaza de los Mártires.

Currently, it features a beautiful porch with three arches that provide access to the vestibule, from where you can enter the central courtyard.
