Although crystal clear, the water takes on different colors, ranging from emerald green to ochre, due to the ambient temperature, season, or the influence of rainfall, owing to its high salt content.
However, thermal waters are not the only attraction in Ixtapan, as it boasts a magnificent golf course that has hosted several important tournaments.
This town, with many traditions, has managed to preserve and showcase them in its colorful handicrafts. Its artisans create fantastic pottery and wood carvings.

Parroquia de la Asunción de María (Parish of the Assumption of Mary)
The parish stands out primarily for its unique wall. It was built in the 16th century and features superb Plateresque style.
Inside, there is a life-size cane Christ known as "El Señor del Perdón" (The Lord of Forgiveness), which is highly venerated. The baroque-style pulpit also stands out for its finely carved design.
The parish is located in front of the Main Garden and is a pleasant place to relax and enjoy its illuminated fountain.
Mercado de Artesanías (Crafts Market)
This is the ideal place to purchase some of the colorful creations made by regional artisans and enjoy typical dishes such as chilacayotes en pipián and red mole.
Tonatico
Just 5 km away, you can visit the town of Tonatico, with wonderful colonial-era buildings. The highlight is the Temple of Our Lady of Tonatico, which dates back to the 17th century and features magnificent laminated gold altarpieces and impressive paintings inside.
