COLONIAL HISTORY AND NATURAL BEAUTY

Its most important festivals are celebrated from November 8 to 13 in honor of San Diego de Alcalá and the feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe, which is celebrated from December 8 to 15.

Tourist Attractions in Tekax
Historic Center
The historic center of this picturesque Pueblo Mágico has managed to preserve its beautiful colonial architecture.
The main park is surrounded by large trees and has the peculiarity of being fenced, similar to the one in the Pueblo Mágico of Valladolid. On one side is the Municipal Palace, the largest in the state, and the grand construction of the Church of San Juan Bautista.
It is an ideal destination for those who want to immerse themselves in Yucatecan culture, enjoy the beauty of nature, and savor delicious local food.
Parroquia de San Juan Bautista
Among all the beautiful constructions in the center, the Church of San Juan Bautista stands out.
This imposing structure was one of the first Franciscan buildings in the area, dating back to 1564. Over time, it has undergone some modifications, such as its dome, but the façade still shows the Franciscan order's shield, and some remnants of its adjacent convent can still be seen.
Inside, there aren't many decorations or elaborate decor, as in 1915, revolutionary groups ransacked everything in the church, transforming it into a military barracks. However, a notable colonial-era baptismal font is preserved.
Ermita de San Diego de Alcalá
It is located a few blocks from the main square and stands atop a hill, 80 meters high. This structure dates back to 1645. To reach this small chapel, you’ll need to climb about 80 steps, which should be done carefully, but it’s well worth it. This saint is known to be very miraculous, and you’ll also enjoy a panoramic view of the entire town. There are comfortable benches where you can rest and take in the scenery, whether by day or by night—it’s one of the must-see spots in Tekax.
Mural Alley
This pedestrian corridor has been decorated with colorful works by Yucatecan artists, representing the region's traditions, including its music, dance, and food, as well as Mayan legends and worldview. It is located next to the Tekax Municipal Palace.
Chacmultún Archaeological Site
Its name means "mounds of red stone" due to the reddish hue of its constructions, primarily caused by the microorganisms in this place, giving it a unique characteristic and additional attraction. It is located just 7 km from this town and is part of the Puuc Route.
Ex Haciendas
In the surrounding areas, you can also visit some former haciendas that are part of Yucatán's history. Perhaps the most attractive is Hacienda Santa María, which retains most of its original structure and one of its kitchen ovens. This hacienda was one of the main sugar cane producers.

The tour can be as long as you want since its formations are so fascinating that you'll want to keep delving into this underground world. You have to rappel and crawl, but you'll find marine fossils, cave paintings, local fauna, and much more.

Enjoy Unforgettable Experiences in Kaalmankal
This ecotourism park features zip lines that cross the jungle, and you can practice rappelling and hiking amidst incredible natural beauty, including two caves. It also offers a lookout with a swing from which you can enjoy a spectacular view and camping areas. It is open from Monday to Sunday from 9:00 to 16:30 hrs.
