THE LONGEST PIER IN THE WORLD
It is located 36 km north from Mérida and is the most important port on the Yucatan coast. Built with reinforced concrete, the pier extends 6.5 km into the Gulf of Mexico, resembling more of a bridge to some distant land. Its length allows large cargo ships as well as luxury tourist cruises to dock in the area. At the end of the pier, there is an area for fishing. Progreso has all the natural elements for various activities and has been developed as a tourist center, integrated urbanistically with the localities of Chelem and Chuburná.
The boardwalk offers restaurants with Yucatecan specialties and marinas, shops with typical crafts, live music, and a panoramic view of the beautiful beach, making it a favorite spot for strolling.
Progreso features good hotel infrastructure suitable for accommodating visitors during vacation periods and throughout the year. It has become a bustling port for cruises from all over the world.
Its fine white sandy beaches have a gentle swell, making them perfect for water sports like diving, snorkeling, kayaking, windsurfing, kite surfing, SUP, and sailing. It tends to get crowded during the summer, and its calm waters are ideal for boat rides.
This is one of the favorite beaches for Yucatecos, so during the summer, it is filled with families who come to enjoy the sea breeze. However, the rest of the year, it's a quieter place, and you'll mostly find visitors on weekends.
