COASTAL TOWN WITH RICH HISTORY
This town became the most important port on the peninsula.
During the 19th and early 20th centuries, it served as a gateway for a wide variety of products, especially henequen.
It boasts pleasant beaches and an exotic natural setting, making it a perfect place to relax. The sand is white, and the water washing its shores is green and calm, ideal for swimming or taking a boat ride.
It is home to a great variety of migratory birds, such as the Canadian duck, and it is renowned for its beautiful sunsets.
There are some casual restaurants that offer delicious dishes made with fresh fish and seafood.
It features fortifications built to protect the town from pirate attacks, as well as other historical buildings like the Maritime Customs House, Fort Santiago "El Castillo," the Lighthouse, Empress Carlota Amalia's house, and the cannons located in the central park.
A great way to explore the town is by renting a bicycle or using a moto taxi. As you ride along the main avenue, you'll come across some shops and small restaurants where you can sit and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere.
It is located in the municipality of Hunucmá, 71 km (about an hour and fifteen minutes) from Mérida.
