KNOWN AS THE CAPITAL OF THE EASTERN MAYA OFFERS CENOTES AND IMPRESSIVE COLONIAL BUILDINGS
Valladolid is just a two-hour drive on a modern highway from Mérida or Cancún. Known as "The Capital of the Mayan East," it is a colonial city full of history, characterized by its hospitality, Mayan traditions, beautiful colonial constructions, and magical cenotes.
As you stroll through its streets, you can enjoy the typical tranquility of the provinces amid all its colorful houses and colonial buildings.
In the city center, there is a beautiful main square that was rebuilt in the year 1703 after being desecrated in an event known as "the mayors' crime," where they were removed from their positions by the people and took refuge in the church, where they were killed. In response to this historical event, the bishop ordered the square to be reconstructed to forget this dark past.
Valladolid is strategically located close to some of the most important archaeological sites of the Mayan culture, such as Chichén Itzá and Ek Balam.
It is located 159 km (2 hours) from Mérida and 156 km (2 hours) from Cancún.
