MAGIC AND MYSTICISM IN THE SIERRA DE OAXACA
The word Huautla means "Place of Eagles" in Nahuatl, as it is nestled in the heart of the Sierra Mazateca, which gives it a unique landscape.
This picturesque town is located in the heart of the Sierra Mazateca. Being within the mountains, you can enjoy spectacular landscapes, including the Iron Bridge Waterfall, the Cerro del Fortín Viewpoint, and the Teoti River, all amidst extensive coniferous forests.
It stands out for having preserved its traditions and customs, but especially its mysticism, as it has managed to safeguard healing and ceremonial knowledge.
It is the land of the famous María Sabina, the wise woman of hallucinogenic mushrooms native to this land, who learned to connect heaven and earth and use them for healing purposes.
In July, the town celebrates the life of this iconic woman with a festival that combines culture, art, conferences, roundtable discussions, religious events, and traditional medicine workshops.

Another important festivity takes place on the third Friday of Lent when the favors of the Lord of the Three Falls are commemorated. During the celebration, there is music, fireworks, and a sumptuous procession through the streets of the town, led by the image of the Patron Saint.
The Mazatec musical rhythms and their regional costumes are also considered a charm of the town, always framed in the magical character of its inhabitants.
The climate is typical of a mountain town, so it is humid and temperate. In the hottest months, temperatures can reach a maximum of 28ºC, and in the colder months, it can drop to 10ºC.
It is located 300 km (5 hours) from Oaxaca City, 266 km (5 hours) from Puebla City, and 385 km (6 hours and 45 minutes) from Mexico City.
