From the Nahuatl word "mexcalli," meaning "cooked maguey leaves," Mezcal is an alcoholic beverage native to the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, made from the distillation of fermented juice from various species of agave.
Mezcal can vary depending on the species of agave or maguey used in its production, as well as the fruits or herbs added during fermentation, and the distillation process employed, creating subtypes such as gusano, tobalá, pechuga, blanco, minero, cedrón, de alacrán, among others.
You can also find Mezcal Creams, made by processing agave honey through double distillation, giving it a sweet flavor that can be combined with a variety of ingredients to create flavors such as coffee, passion fruit, nance, mango, coconut, strawberry, piña colada, cappuccino, passion fruit, etc.
The Mezcal Route encompasses the Sierra Sur, a mountainous region where forest wealth and coffee production are important.
