ECOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT MODEL

Mazunte comes from Nahuatl and means "I ask you to kindly spawn." However, many of its inhabitants say that it was given that name due to the abundance of a blue crab known as "Mazunte."

It is a place that has reinvented itself and has become an example of an ecological destination with a unique natural beauty, featuring golden sandy beaches bathed by crystal-clear waters with shades of green and blue, framed by the imposing Sierra de Oaxaca.

The hotels in the area have an ecological focus and seek to integrate with the surrounding nature. There are also several restaurants that not only offer typical dishes but also serve Italian or Japanese cuisine.

Mazunte has become the host of the important International Jazz Festival held during the last weekend of November. This event features renowned national and international bands.

Enjoy its beautiful beaches

You can visit San Agustinillo Beach, which has three small coves and is located just five minutes from Mazunte. It is a beautiful beach with variable waves, but most of the year, it is suitable for surfing and safe, as there are no underwater currents.

Mermejita Beach is also close to Mazunte and is a place to relax, although the waves can be quite strong.

Another beautiful beach in the region is Agua Blanca Beach, where you can find palapas serving fresh fish. It has a series of rocks that protect against strong waves, creating small pools of calm water for swimming.

Discover a lagoon with a unique landscape

It is worth visiting Laguna Ventanilla, a very special landscape that has undergone significant changes since the hurricanes of the 1990s. Through the collective effort of the local community, it is gradually regenerating. There is a cooperative that offers boat tours on the lagoon.

A boat ride on the lagoon is like navigating a mirror of blue, green, and even dark red colors, while getting to know the life of the mangrove forest up close.

During the journey, you can enjoy tranquility disturbed only by the hundreds of birds and dozens of crocodiles that inhabit the area. It is an experience of connecting with nature in a completely different ecosystem.
