It is named after the insurgent Don Manuel Villalongín.

According to history, he bravely rescued his wife, who was held captive by the Spanish in the "Las Ánimas" prison, located in this very garden. 

Previously, it was known as "Plazuela de las Ánimas" because the chapel in front was dedicated to the souls.

Currently, this beautiful garden recalls the tranquil life during the viceregal period.
