NORTHERN GATEWAY TO BAJA’S WINE COUNTRY

It is located at the foothills of the Sierra de Juárez, very close to the US border, and has a Mediterranean climate.

The town has a pleasant central square that was built in the mid-20th century, with a kiosk, benches, and abundant trees, surrounded by various restaurants and commercial establishments.

In Tecate, the tranquility of rural life contrasts with the strength of its manufacturing activity. The city is famous for its beer industry, archaeological zone, spas, excellent grape products, as well as its blown glass and clay craftsmanship.

It is located 50 km (45 minutes) from Tijuana, 130 km (1.5 hours) from Mexicali, and 60 km (1 hour) from San Diego.

Tourist Attractions in Tecate

Miguel Hidalgo Park

In the park, you can enjoy food stalls and crafts.

Tecate Brewery

Founded in 1944, this is a must-visit stop on your trip to Tecate.

The brewery has been part of the town's identity since the 1940s. Currently, you can take tours of its facilities and taste its delicious beers. Tours are available from Monday to Friday.

Tecate Community Museum

It features an exhibition that tells the history of the Magical Town divided into three rooms: the prehistory and history of the Kumiai, the era of ranches, and modern-day Tecate.

The exhibition includes various regional pieces, murals, sculptures, and photographs that will help you learn more about the region's history.

Inside the museum, there is also a display of baskets, ceramics, and bows and arrows found in caves.

Hours: Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 hrs. Sunday from 10:00 to 15:30 hrs.

Campo Alaska Site Museum

If you enjoy learning about the culture and history of the place, don't miss this museum located just 70 km from downtown Tecate. It is housed in an old military barracks dating back to the 1920s and built by Abelardo Rodríguez.

Inside, there is an interesting display of items that speak about native cultures like the Kumiai and showcase their legends and traditions, as well as photographs from when the building served as a barracks.

Hours: Wednesday to Sunday from 8:00 to 15:00 hrs.

El Vallecito Rock Paintings

There is a great cultural wealth inherited from the ancient inhabitants of this region, manifested through rock art in nearby stones and caves, such as the El Vallecito site located in La Rumorosa. Currently, more than 18 sets of rock paintings have been found, including El Hombre Enraizado, Conjunto Cueva del Indio, Conjunto El Tiburón, Conjunto El Diablillo, and Conjunto Wittinñur.

Explore a Sacred Mountain

Among the natural attractions of the region, the Cerro del Cuchumá stands out, which was a refuge for the ancient Kumiai community. In fact, it is considered a sacred mountain where shamanic initiations took place.

The Professor's Park is located on the hill, dedicated to Professor Edmond Szekely, founder of Rancho La Puerta.
