Ensenada
Every year, the gray whales set off on the longest migration made by any mammal. They are on their way to Baja to spend a few months enjoying the lagoons along the Baja coast. The whale watching season in Ensenada begins in December and runs through April.
The major areas from which to get really close to the whales are: Magdalena Bay and Todos Santos Bay. The most common whale is the gray whale, a colossus weighting up to 30 ton. In the tour you will also visit Todos los Santos Island where you will be surprise with a colony of sea lions.
This tour is done in pangas, locally made 22 foot boats, which are open and can accommodate up to ten people. You can watch the whales with their young right next to the boats. The mammals seem to enjoy interaction with humans and you can even touched them. This is an unforgettable experience for the feeling you get from hugging and kissing these friendly whales.
There are several sportfishing companies offering whale watching tours. The trip lasts approximately 4 hours and the cost varies according to the number of people or type of boat.
