A LONG HISTORY TOLD THROUGH ITS ARCHITECTURE

The history of Ciudad del Maíz dates back to prehistoric times. Here, obsidian objects such as blades, scrapers, and arrowheads have been discovered, along with cave paintings that are not Huastecan. The current town was founded in 1617 by Fray Juan Bautista Mollinedo, and it still preserves its colonial-style architecture to this day.

The native Pame people gave it the name M’Pu ‘N’Tjua, which means "Valley of the Corn," and it is known for its natural beauty.

Los Perales Springs: Located 40 kilometers away, these springs offer refreshing, crystal-clear waters surrounded by cypress trees.

The handicrafts reflect the traditions of the town, these include wicker furniture, wood-carved figures, and various basketry items.

The Indigenous Holy Week (Semana Santa Indígena Xi’lui) Indígena Xi’luiis a festival that has been celebrated for over 300 years, showcasing the ancestral culture of the indigenous people through traditional dances.

Ciudad del Maíz is located in the northwest of the state, approximately 145 kilometers from the city of San Luis Potosí.

Both murals were designed by Diego Rivera and executed by his students Roseado Soto Álvarez and Jorge Best Berganzo.

Pasquel's mansion is now in ruins but accessible.
