IMPORTANT MINING CENTER DURING THE COLONIAL PERIOD

As the capital of the state of San Luis Potosí, it is one of the most beautiful cities in the country, thanks to its monumental architecture, impressive baroque facades, plazas, and gardens that invite relaxation and contemplation.

San Luis Potosí was founded as a Franciscan mission in 1592, but it was not until the discovery of gold and silver deposits that the area began to develop. It was named San Luis in honor of Louis XIV of France and Potosí because it was compared to the rich gold mines in Bolivia, with the hope of rivalling them. However, despite being a prosperous colonial center, this goal was never fully realized. Nevertheless, San Luis Potosí became a prosperous state.

San Luis Potosí also features shopping centers, amusement parks that will delight both kids and adults, and unique natural beauties in its surroundings.

Due to its strategic geographic location, San Luis Potosí is known as the "National Distribution Center" thanks to its modern access routes. The city preserves its colonial charm and combines many attributes of a modern city, with hotel infrastructure, a road network, airports, and a rich tourist and cultural offering. 

It has a mild climate with an average annual temperature of 19ºC.
