WHERE THE DESERT MEET THE SEA
It is an attractive town where the beautiful waters of the Sea of Cortez meet the Sonoran Desert, creating special conditions that result in endemic fauna and flora. It has extensive and beautiful beaches, and its incredible sunsets are famous.
Its first inhabitants were the Indigenous Pima people, and with the arrival of the Spanish, missionaries came, among whom Father Kino stood out. He founded Caborca and celebrated his first mass in December 1692.
Among the most typical dishes of the place is a unique sweet treat, coyotas filled with vanilla ice cream, cajeta, or chocolate. It is a true delight that you must not miss.
Caborca is considered the gateway to the extraordinary Sonoran Desert and is one of the country's main exporters of grapes and asparagus.
In the surroundings of Caborca, you can explore the desert and engage in bird watching, cycling, hiking, and photographic safaris.
Just 5 minutes from downtown Caborca, you can visit the rock paintings of Cerro de la Proveedora, the largest petroglyph site of its kind in the country, with thousands of representations estimated to be over a thousand years old.
Other nearby attractions are the tourist ranches where you can experience being a cowboy for a few days, herding cattle, milking cows, making cheese, and many other activities that will make you wonder if your true calling is to be a farmer. Additionally, there are activities such as hiking, horseback riding, or biking, and best of all, you can enjoy the clear skies, one of the main characteristics of Sonora.
